Magic Bars

These sweet little dessert bars are called be many names such as 7 layer bars, hello dolly bars, and magic bars. However you refer to these bars they are delicious and can be made in no time flat. They are gooey, chewy, squares loaded with chocolate, butterscotch, and coconut-y good flavor.

These magic bars are sweet, delicious, and seem to *vanish* almost as quickly as you can make them.

Ingredients: (yields 12 – 16 bars depending on how generous you want to be)

  • 1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs crushed
  • 1/2 of a cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup of walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 of a cup of butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup of sweetened flaked coconut
  • 2 1/2 cups of sweetened condensed milk
I began by preheating the oven to 350 degrees and lining a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

In a large bowl I mixed together 1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs and 1/2 of a cup of melted butter.

I pressed the graham cracker crumbs evenly into the lined baking pan.

Then I spread out 1 cup of chopped walnuts over the graham cracker crust.

To the nut layer I added 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chunks and 1/2 of a cup of butterscotch chips.

Then I sprinkled 1 cup of coconut over the chocolate and butterscotch chips.

Lastly I evenly spooned 1 1/2 cups of sweetened condensed milk over the top of the coconut layer.

I baked the bars for about 20 minutes until the tops were lightly browned.  I let the bars fully cool before cutting into them.

These are a delicious treat that is sure to win over any crowd. The crisp graham cracker crust, sweet chocolate and butterscotch chips topped with sweet and flaky coconut all blanketed in a light layer of creamy sweetened milk; this is magic.
